The Redstart Primary School – Head of School for the day.  

Pupils from The Redstart Primary School, in Chard (part of The Redstart Learning Partnership) saw their day run slightly differently when Holly Potter was made "Head of School for the day".  Holly won the prestigious prize during the school’s family bingo night organised by the Friends of Redstart School (FoRS). Holly, a year 6 pupil, took part in several activities during the day, including checking behaviour at break time, giving out stickers for excellent work, assisting during superstar assembly and shortlisting art entries for the Trust art competition. 

Holly was given her own special lanyard to wear for the day, all the children and teachers called her Miss Potter and she received a certificate to commemorate her special day. Some of the teachers did ask for a day off or if they could go home early but she quickly put them in their place!

Rebecca Collins, Head of School said

"It was great to put my feet up for the day and let Miss Potter take on the job of being Head for the day!  She was good-natured and professional in her approach and did an excellent job.” 

Miss Holly Potter said;

“My favourite part of the day was going around the classes because I got to see all of the children. I also liked doing assembly - it was good and a really fun day.” 

Everyone at the school commented on what a great job Miss Potter had made of being Head of School – Mrs Collins might need to watch out!

Searching the stars!

            The Redstart Primary School – Searching the stars! Last week, KS2 pupils from The Redstart Primary School (part of The Redstart Learning Partnership) took part in two out of this world events. On Wednesday, the school had a visit from the wonderful ‘space odyssey’ planetarium and on Thursday evening, over 180 children and parents joined teachers from the school during a fabulous evening of stargazing activities. After the disappointment of cancelling last year due to Storm Eunice and having to miss the year before that due to the COVID 19 pandemic, it was a relief to finally be able to run the evening that has been held annually at Redstart for over 10 years. Along with special guests from Winsham Primary School, the children learnt about the constellations and looked at amazing telescope images taken from visiting astronomers from the Crewkerne and District Astronomical Society. They also listened to the story of The Great Bear, played PE games, drew their own ‘Black Hole’ before finally relaxing with hot chocolate around the campfire. .              It was an excellent evening enjoyed by all.  A pupil from Redstart said: ‘I loved the stargazing evening. It was so much fun’ and a parent was keen to share ‘We’ve been out every night since and can now spot the Cassiopeia constellation every night! Thank you for such a good evening.’ Rebecca Collins, Head of School from The Redstart Primary School said: ‘Both events have been a fantastic opportunity for our children to learn more about the sky at night both in a simulated environment and the actual night sky.  It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers coming along to the stargazing event and getting involved in all the activities.  I would like to say a special thank you to the visiting astronomers from the Crewkerne and District Astronomical Society and the staff that supported the event.  Plans are already in place for next year’s astronomical events and we are already looking forward to them.’
